The unchanging truth about the believer  Part 3

There are irrefutable facts about the believer in Christ. They don’t change even if he does not know these facts about himself. A man is a man even if he does not know he is. His ignorance of the fact that he is a man does not make him a goat!

We examined some of these irrefutable facts which I call “unchanging truth” in the earlier parts of this teaching. The fact that the believer is blessed. We are blessed with all spiritual blessings in the heavenlies in Christ (Eph. 1:3). God has spoken well of us in Christ. That is actually the meaning of the term “blessing” or “to be blessed”. Paul the writer of this statement further enumerated what God has spoken well concerning us. He chose us in Him, predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Christ Jesus (Eph. 1:5). Let’s dwell on this for a moment.

The word “predestination” describes a determination of the arrival or existence of another by an Eternal Being without the creature’s consent or input. The believer is a product of God’s predetermination. He chose us before the foundation of the world that we should be holy and without blame in love. All these He executed through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This predestination or foreknowledge has to do with man’s salvation.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Eph. 2:8-9).

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour” (Titus 3:5-6).

The work of salvation which He wrought in Christ did not have our input. It was all by grace and mercy. We are only instructed to believe that it was done for us. Faith in Christ simply means “I agree it was all done for me”

Another term Apostle Paul used in his letter to the Ephesian church is the term “adoption of children” and it means “a placing as sons” This was what God predetermined before hand. We were fore ordained to be sons of God.
“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father” (Rom. 8:15). The Spirit of adoption is a Spirit of sonship.

He said same thing to the Galatian church

“But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father” (Gal. 4:5-6).

We were made sons not by the virtue of what we did right but by what God did right in His Son. Now and through out eternity, we are sons of God. We emerged through the womb of Christ’s death and resurrection. God is our Father and we are His sons.
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God…” (1 Jn. 3:1-2a). The word “behold” means “look intently without any distraction” Pay attention to what God has copiously lavished on you! All because of His great love you are called His sons!

Sonship is not by spiritual attainment, it is a gift of salvation. This truth can never change. If what we did right did not qualify us for sonship, what we do wrong cannot disqualify us from it except God changes His mind. But we know that God is not a man that he should lie nor the Son of man that He should repent (change His mind). His work is as perfect as He is. His work is eternal! “I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him” (Ecc. 3:14).
