What is on your CV?

I’m not asking for your professional CV…academic credentials or career accomplishments

I’m talking about your “spiritual qualifications” and “medals”.

The Apostles of old had a CV. The contents had nothing to do with what they had achieved in the flesh. One of them boldly said he counted everything he had accomplished in the flesh as dung for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ. Paul was his name (Phil. 3:4-8).

Chapter 15 of the book of Acts has an account that is very fascinating. There were some Jewish men who taught the believers who were Gentiles by nationality that except they were physically circumcised, they couldn’t have been saved. This led to a strong disputation among Barnabas, Paul and these Jewish men. It was agreed that Paul, Barnabas and some other folks should be sent to the Apostles in Jerusalem for clarifications. This they did, Peter boldly recounted how the Lord led him to Cornelius a gentile and the Spirit was given to him and his household and the fact that God had not put a difference between the Jews and the Gentiles. He also said circumcision and likes were tantamount to putting a yoke on the disciples which the Jewish patriarchs and descendants couldn’t bear. Then he stated in vs 11 “But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they” Salvation is received solely by grace and it is sustained by same (Eph. 2:5, 8-9).

Here is where I’m heading at, after all these had been said and Apostle James also corroborated, they sent a letter to the disciples in Antioch through Paul and Barnabas and this was how they introduced them “It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, Men that have HAZARDED THEIR LIVES for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” KJV

“It seemed good to us, having come to an agreement together, to send these men to you, with our well loved Barnabas and Paul, Men WHO HAVE GIVEN UP THEIR LIVES for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” BBE

That was the content of their Curriculum Vitae! They were men who had given up the ownership of their lives for the sake of the Gospel! They were sold out! They lived for nothing less! They had zero ambition! It wasn’t about what they wanted, it was all for God and His Gospel
Paul listed the items that should be on the CV of a new testament minister. He said this is how we affirm ourselves as ministers of God….not by the cars we drive or the material things we own

He said
….in much patience
in afflictions
in necessities
in distresses
in stripes,
in imprisonments,
in tumults,
in labours,
in watchings,
in fastings;
by pureness,
by knowledge,
by longsuffering,
by kindness,
by the Holy Ghost,
by love unfeigned,
by the word of truth,
by the power of God,
by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,
by honour and dishonour
by evil report and good report:
as deceivers, and yet true;
as unknown, and yet well known;
as dying, and, behold, we live;
as chastened, and not killed;
as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing
as poor, yet making many rich;
as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.
( 2 Cor. 6:4-10)

Nothing carnal or material is listed here. As ministers and believers, we must spend and be spent for the Gospel of Christ. Nothing is more important than this. That a soul hears the Gospel, believes and becomes a member of God’s family through our sacrifices. This is truly a rich CV because that’s all that will matter after all is said and done.

May it be said of us that we are men and women who have hazarded our lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
