The Unchanging Truth About the Believer_Part 6

The Unchanging Truth About the Believer_Part 6

The believer has an unchanging identity in Christ. And this identity demands our continuous attention. “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart” (Prov. 4:20-21)

We should never forget the manner of man we are in Christ. We ought to regularly affirm them. You see, new creation realities must become our realities as we confess and affirm them. Our consciousness takes the shape of our confession. A believer can truly live out who he is in Christ via the channel of affirmation and declaration. I am a human being, that is a fact! But when I remind myself of who I am, it helps me to never think less of myself.

You see, sometimes we forget who we are! We get carried away by the cares of this life, bad associations, bad habits begin to dominate our thought pattern and lifestyle. When this happens, we have forgotten who we are! We are not disciplined enough to put God’s Word right before our very eyes. “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Ps. 119:9)

When you don’t know who you are in Christ or deliberately allow the words of Christ dwell in you in all wisdom, your lifestyle or conduct will not be different from an unbeliever’s.This was what happened in the church at Corinth. They were called saints yet they behaved like sinners…

“And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?” (1 Cor. 3:1-4).

It is possible you know who you are in Christ and live a life that does not affirm this unchanging reality. The essence of spiritual growth is God glorifying lifestyle. The unchanging truth of God’s Word MUST change our manner of life. Within the framework of who we are in Christ, there are instructions given to us about what we should do.

There is a plethora of them, let’s see a few..

Be not conformed to this world…Rom 12:2
Flee fornication 1 Cor. 6:19
Be filled with the Spirit Eph. 5:18
Flee youthful lust 2 Tim. 2:22

Lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset…Heb 12:1

And a lot more

These are not mere suggestions, they are clear cut instructions that will enable the bible give expression to the unchanging reality within. Well, some of us have been accused of teaching lopsided truth particularly by those who have not listened to us. They do not know that we teach every bible subject/instruction with equal gravity and responsibility.

Your position in Christ will never change, but your mindset and manner of life must continually change in tandem with the reality of your position in Christ.
