The Willing Healing Jesus – Part 2

“And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils. And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed” (Mk. 1:39-42).

Healing is God’s will. Jesus emphatically demonstrated this all through His earthly ministry. He healed the sick, cast out devils and performed all kinds of miracles. “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them” (Matt. 4:23-24). He healed even when it seemed impossible to heal due to his kin folks’ unbelief. “And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching” (Mk. 6:5-6). After His resurrection, as a confirmation of an extension of His healing power through the believers, He said “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” (Mk. 16:17-18).

Jesus healed the leper who was in doubt of his willingness to heal him of leprosy. He asked “if thou will, make me clean” Jesus didn’t give him a long teaching on “21 reasons why healing is delayed or denied” “7 Steps to receiving healing” All He said to him was “I will, be thou clean” He proved to him that He was more than willing to heal him. He had compassion on him. Leprosy was highly contagious and at this time incurable. The lepers were not permitted to live in the city, they couldn’t mingle with healthy people. They lived on the outskirts. If at all they came to the cities or where healthy people lived to get food stuff or visit family members, they were instructed to scream from a distance “Unclean…unclean”. And in case they were cured of this infectious skin disease, it was only a priest according to the Mosaic law that could pronounce them cured. Jesus did not hesitate to touch him. He touched a leper? It was forbidden under the law. He could be stoned to death for doing this. Didn’t He know that the disease was highly contagious? Of course He knew! But He also knew that what He had in Him was stronger and greater than the skin disease. In fact, the healing power was more contagious than leprosy! There was a higher law which was at work in Him. He knew the man would be healed as soon as there was a contact. The touch was an affirmation of His willingness to heal him. It was not a touch of a Healer but that of a Lover! He touched him because He loved him. He pronounced him cleansed and then said unto him “…See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them” (Mk. 1:44).

When He told him to show himself to the priest, it was a mere formality. It was for a testimony unto them (the priests). The healing had already taken place. He was a willing and a healing Jesus. He remains the same today. He is saying to you right now “I will…be healed of that pain in your body” Those two words “I will” have not changed! His “I will” remains “I will”! You see, the willingness of Jesus to heal has never been questioned, it is man’s readiness to receive that is usually in doubt. We’ll continue to examine this next time.

Say these words out loud: “I believe God’s healing power is available to me and in me today. I believe I receive healing and a complete cure for any disease condition in my body right now”
