How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him”(Acts. 10:38).
God still heals today! His healing power is as real as it has always been. No sickness is incurable! God does not use the word “incurable”. It was coined from the position of man’s inability to proffer solutions to life’s perplexing problems. No case is hopeless!
In fact, there are no hopeless situations, people only become hopeless about their situations. There are no terminal illnesses. “For with God nothing shall be impossible” (Lk. 1:37).
Before this statement was made, an account was given about a woman who in her old age was already six months pregnant. Her name was Elizabeth, she was called barren! She became a mother despite what people called her. Because “the things that are impossible with men are possible with God” Lk. 18:27. Impossibility does not exist in God’s dictionary! He is a specialist in turning man’s impossible situations around!
Jesus came to the earth to demonstrate God’s unwavering relentless willingness to heal the sick. He went about doing good. Some have said that the good He went about doing were corporate social responsibilities. He distributed food materials to the needy, swept major roads that were unkempt, provided insecticides and mosquito nets to pregnant women and nursing mothers, he gave books to school children etc. No Sir!
The only answer to this sick and dying world is not a bunch of “good works” which other business empires are already doing, it is the demonstration of the healing power of Jesus. In as much as these activities are not bad in themselves but they were not what Jesus went about doing as recorded in the bible. Whenever such is suggested by some today, it is with the intent of explaining away the reality of God’s healing power! It is implied by those who are not willing to earnestly contend for the miraculous power of Jesus so they gladly replace it with what big corporate organisations also do!
Jesus went about doing good and the good He went about doing was to heal all that were oppressed of the devil. Sickness is of the devil! Diseases are from the wicked one. I like what Alexander Dowie said many years ago “Sickness is a foul offspring of its father devil and its mother sin.” Jesus was teaching in a synagogue on a sabbath day. There He met a woman who was bowed over, she was suffering from a spirit of infirmity and that had affected her physical gait for eighteen long years. Jesus said to her “ Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity” He laid his hands on her and immediately the bible says she was made straight. When the ruler of that synagogue saw that Jesus healed on a sabbath day, he became very angry. I’d like you to pay attention to Jesus’ response, “The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?” (Lk. 13:15-16). Jesus said it was satan who bound that woman for eighteen years! Sickness is an oppression of the devil. Freedom from such oppression is of God! And the power of God sets men free from any oppression of the devil manifesting in any form of sickness, disease or illness.
“And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them” (Lk 5:17). God’s power is the panacea for human illnesses. “And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed. And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all” (Lk. 6:17-19). There went virtue out of him. The Greek word for the words “power” and “virtue” in the passages quoted above is “Dunamis”. It is pronounced “doo’-nam-is”. It means strength, power, ability, inherent power, power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature, or which a person or thing exerts and puts forth, it is a miracle producing force from within! Jesus knew He was anointed with this power. The people knew He was too! So when He showed up, God’s healing power showed up! And He healed them all! “When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick” (Matt. 8:16).
