Times may change, seasons come and go but the truth of God’s Word does not change. What God said about Himself and the believer in Him is eternal. A believer is not one who is trying to match up with the standard of God, He was born with that standard. He is not trying to be like God, rather he is an offspring of God. He has His nature, His DNA! The very essence of God lives on his inside.
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. (1 Pet. 1:23). The believer is born of the incorruptible, indestructible Word of God. He is an expression and extension of the Word by which he was born. If you are looking for the Word of God, the believer is a proof of it! The believer is a proof of what the Word of God can do! “Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures” (Jam. 1:18).
How do we know the Word of God liveth and abideth forever? The next verses tell us “For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away, But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And THIS IS THE WORD WHICH BY THE GOSPEL IS PREACHED UNTO YOU” (1Pet. 1:24-25). Apostle Peter says natural men are like grass and the glory or beauty of man is like a beautiful flower that withers away. He is telling us about the status of a man who is not born again, he compares him with grass and flower that ceases to be but the born again man is different! He is not like natural man since he was born by/of the Word. This came via the gospel that was preached to him! The Word which liveth and abideth forever can be found Him! He is the reason the Word liveth and abideth forever!
The believer has everlasting life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (Jh. 3:16).
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” (Jn. 5:24).
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life” ( Jh 6:47).
“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son, He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life…” (1Jn. 5:11-13).
It is this assurance of eternal life that gives the believer confidence in the place of prayer. He is not praying to get answers, he is praying because he knows he has answers!
Look at the next verses:
“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him” (1 Jn. 5:14-15).
Prayer to a believer is an “In Him” reality! He has answers in Him, then he prays the answers because he is a possessor of eternal life.
Glory to God!
